»IR, — It -was only a few days ago my attention waa directed by a Mend to a communication from your Whatawhata Correspondent re my preaching there on the 26th ult/THe says, I « preached an earnest and impressive sermon, m which however, the future home for sinners was depicted m rather strong terms for modem digestion." Though he states the sermon was earnest and impressive, I think you Sir will agree with me it does not seem to nave had the desired effect m his case. Does he wish to insinuate that my preaching is too ancient for modem acceptance ? If so, I will take this opportunity of assuring him, it is not because I lived m the days of the Puritans, but simply because my assertions 'vere founded upon the most ancient of books. sufficiently wise and enlightened to stamp as unorthodox and false the teaobings of the Supreme Being. I trust your correspondent will, like the Bereanfl, searoh for himself and see whether or not these things aro so, as I wish him to understand that tlw Bible alone was my authority, and that what I said was not a lapsus lingua.
