&r, —Through tho oolumus of your valuable journal allow mo to call the attention of the Whaingaroa Board of ugh way Trustees to the very dangerous state of the bridge known as the Mata Kotia. Two only of the stringors are iu a sound condition, the remainder being pimply upheld by the plank spiking. Tliis bridge being on the main road to Waipa, ought in all reason to be a firat charge againat tho funds of the district. While money appears to be freely expended upon cuttings and bridgosin thdmfparts of tho district where traffic is almost nil, why allow such an important bridge as the ono in question, to remain in its present state ? I should certainly hositato before I ventured with a team over it, and though a frequent traveller over this road, I generally take tho precaution to dismount bofore trusting myself over it, prefe ring (while risking the life and liuibs of my horse) to give mysolf a better chanoo of e3cape than I would have iu tho saddle. 'I would not have troubled you about these local matters had not the Board been bo apathetic in the matter, their attention to which having been several times called by different settlers, but of which not the slightest notico has been ta en. To the eye of the travelling public, the bridge is perfectly safe, but please do not examine the under structure, for, " where ignorance is bliss 'twere folly to bo wise." Trusting these few remarks will have the deßired effect, and that I shall not again be necessitated to bring the matter before the public—l am, &c, WILMAM N. WaIUS. Oketo "Falls, November 10.
