WHATAWHATA.

It ig time that tho Newcastle Board appointed a ranger. At pteaent our township flat is covered with etook of all kindo, including a worthless BfcallioD. Of counio no one owns the brute, and so it is allowed to run at large and do , a considerable amount of damage Our cricketing season commences on Saturday next. We will again contest the honors with the Tubikararaea team, and it is to be hoped with better success than hitherto. Some changes m the officers of our club have been made, and with a good set of tools m hand we hope to score a few wins this season. I have heard that our school teacher has (been offered a larger school, and although no doubt the change would be to Mr Le Gallias's benefit, we all hope that he will not accept it. Since assuming the care of our school, about twelve months ago, the number of scholars Attending has more than doubled, and parents are quite satisfied with the progress the children have made. Good teachers are not so plentiful, and we have no desire ttflook for a new one. The Key. Mr. Jones (Wesleyan) held divine service on Sunday last. The rev gentleman preached ah earnest and impressive sermon, m which, however, the future home for sinners was depicted m rather strong terms for modern digestion. !The Rev. Mr. Oalder will be here on Sunday next. It will be seen that we are better off for religious services than we have beon, having now a monthly Wesleyan service as well as a monthly -visit from Mr. Calder.— Coreesfohdent.
