FASHIONABLE SCANDALS.

The " Star's " special correspondent, writing from London, says : Fashionable scandals have been frequent of lato. It is only a few weeks ago since society was pai'alysecl by the news of Col. Wellesley's elopement with the dancer, Kate Vaughac, and now rumour dcclaroth we are to have a divorce case in which royalty will bo implicated. Colonel Arthur Wellosley, of the Coldstrerm Guards, is a son of Lord Cowley, and one of the heirs t.o the Dukedom of Wellington. In 1871 ho joined the diplomatic circle, and to the infinite disgust of many seniors was promoted to the important post of military attache at St. Petersburg. There was a great row about the job, several awkward questious being asked in Parliament . but the Government braved it out, and after a time Col. Wellosley grew so popular that all ill-feel-ing died away. In 1873 he married the cjanghtor of the present Governor of New South Wales, Lord Augustus Loftus, then ambassador at St. Petersburg, and two years latsr was promoted to a similar post at Vienna. Miss Vaugban is a very pretty woman, for whom Colonel Wcllcsloy may possibly think the st world well lost." The immediate results of his folly are dismissal from the diplomatic service, and the erasure of his name from the list of persons invited to court. lie has also, to nso the words of the " Gazette," ceased to be a Queen's aide-de-camp."
