WHATAWHATA.
The following is the petition to the House of Representatives now being numerously .signed by residents"in and about Whatawhata interested in the sale of Government lands in that township, the building of a bridge over the river.Waipa, and for the commencement of the road from Hamilton to Whatawhata, the money for which hns ; been already voted :-—...' To the Hon. House of Representatives of Now Zealand, in Parliament assembled. The petition of the undersigned humbly showeth:— 1. That your petitioners are residents at tho township of Whatawhata, Waikato, settlors aud persons owning property or interested in the said township. 2. That the allotments in tho said township have been kept back from public sale for a number of years by previous Governments to the injury of district, residents, and persons owning property therein. 3. That your Hon. House will give instructions to the Waste Lands Board, Auckland! to have the township allotments opened for sale. 4. That numerous casos exist of lettlers haviug applied to the Waste Lands H&rd to purchase allotments, and have been informed that they were not for sale, aud only lately a gentleman named Holland with his family j from Queens-, land, applied to the Waste Lands Board for a section iu the township, but was informed he could not get it, and if ho built he would be liable to bo brought up for trespass. 5. That your petitioners humbly beg to point out to your Hon. House the great injury from this turning away bona fide settlers, and men with small capital, that will accrue to this promising township. 6. That a bridge is most urgently required at Whatawhata (promised by Sir'" George' Grey) in consequence of the' increased traffic since the opening of the Raglan Road,' the small and rotten condition of tho punt being quite inadequate for tho place.: . , > 7. That your petitioners humbly pray that the road from Hamilton to Whatawhata be' commenced, the money for which is already voted, and which when completed andinconnectionwith theWaipa and Raglan Road, will open up a large tract of country not now accessible, and which will complete tho good work already done on the Raglan side of the river. 8. That having pointed nut to your Hon. House the almost irreparable injury sustained by this community and the necessity of a bridge and road from Hamilton, and to have such ah unsatisfactory state of things rectified* we apply to your Hon. House for the redress of injuries done to our community. And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
