The proposal spoken of, came from Mr Germann, the chairman, to amend the Counties Act, to the effect that the number be not confined to nine, but that each Highway Board be represented by its chairman, with increased representation to each Highway Board on a basis of population for Town Boards and on rates for the country district. _'be inoreased reoresentation as proposed, if it became law, would give to ewcastle two members; the town of Njraruawahia, one; to Kihikihi, ono; to Hamilton Uistriot, one more; each other Highway Board would be as at present. I must Bay I did ,feel much surprised at Mr Corboy voting against this proposed amendment, as i L. would be to the advantage of the riding he represents. ♦- . Sib, — It is a long time since I wrote to you. On that occasion, it was about the depasturing of horees m the township our poor brutes could not get a mouthful of grass. At that time, it was all eaten up by a lot of hungry oows, this season it is the same. On a Sunday when I want my hor.se, I liave to travel miles on the run before I can catch him, the cows have all the grass devoured. I have complained to the Board. There ia a horsie gentleman m the Board and he haa stuck out for the last bwo years against the cows. All the satiHfaction that I get from them is, that children must be fed. I, would like to ask old Domiu if old mother Eye over used a feeding bottle. I do not know what women are made of now, aud I hope I never will. Oh ! that feeding bottle, I am afraid I will have it on the brain. Our legislators very wisely passed au \et authorising Boards to charge 2.s 6d per headforevery bt a 1 of cattle depasturing m their districts. . But our liberal Board say 10s is the chargo, and it is well worth £1. One of the oldest ratepayers that was living m Caiubridve at tie time Captain Trimble used to come up the river m his little bo it, says he will summons the last year'a chairman of the Board, for overcharging him for depasturing five head of cattlo. There is a mate of mine here who only gets -8n per week for working, yet he" keeps hia horse, and has a double* set of clothing for his poor bowc.
