CAMBRIDGE HIGHWAY BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held at the residence of Mr, John Sha***, Hautapu, on Saturday, the -__th inst. There were present : Messrs. S. S. Graham (chairman), Shaw and *W. L. Martyn. The minutes and correspondence having been read, the seoretary reported the state of the Board's account at the bank to be a debit balance cf £70 3s 7d, but that on the lst inst. a sum of £150 had been posted by the Government at Wellington to the credit of tht Board. This money is the amouns promised by Mr. Sheehan towaivle the expense incurred m the construction of the Victoria Koad (Cambridge to Piako). The following accounts were passed and ordered to be paid, viz.: — Thompson and Graham, £o 17s Gd ; D. K. McDon.ld, £1 10s ; Waikato Times, 7s 9d ; Coates aud Campbell, <£1S 16d -Id ; Sam Cowling, £11-1-3; Mr. Wells, 7s ', Mr. B.eakell, i.6. Total, £U 2s 7d. Mr. Martyn reminded the Board that a sum of £50 hid been appropriated by the Waikato County Council towards the reduction of the present impracticable gradient at Eweu's Hill, and proposed that Mr. Graham and himself be empowered to cou.sulj Mr. Hosking as to the best means qf effecting' the object iv view, as well as to invite and aocept tenders for the work as early as they can possibly bo obtained. Agreed to.' Messrs. Shaw aud Martyn were authorised to call for and deal with tenders for the improvement of the main road near Mr. Arnold's, and Messrs. Graham and Martyn were m a like manner empowered to take the necessary steps to have the Narrow's Koad- improved. It was resolved to order 400 fourinch tiles to be used m convej^ing surface water from the main road, throngh private property, upo:i the understanding that the proprietors will undertake the expense of laying them.
