DEFEAT OF THE MINISTRY.
The division has come off, and the Ministry has been defeated by a majority .of two. Te VVheoro was locked m and voted for the Government, his intention having been not to record a vote at all. He had, we hear, been spoken of as the new J Native Minister, but if there was any truth m such report, the vote he has given will be a bar to office. As yet, there is no information as to the personnel of the new Ministry, but that; they will have a good working majority is certain. There were many Members pledged to vote with the Government, who having so far satisfied their promises to their constituents, will work cordially with the late Opposition now m power — and none the less readily so, that while the late Ministry used the cry cf liberalism as a mere stalking horse to deceive the country, men of really liberal, opinions are now certain to take the helm of public affairs. Public opinion has pronounced unmistakably m favour of the measures which form the basis of liberalism m the present day, and no Government can hope to hold office that sets its face against them. mi
