October 1, 1879. The Waifcoa Highway District Board received tenders, as under, for the road works advertised : — W. Digging drain, carting and laying set of 6in. pipes 1 10 0 Digging drain, carting and laying set of 18in. pipes 2 10 0 Deepening main drain 0 17 6 Small drain .. ..066 Carting sand . . ..017 per yard Digging drain, carting and laying pipes . . 015 6 J. Coombes. Deepening main drains 10 0 per yard Small drain . . 050 Carting sand . . 018 Digging drain,- carting v and laying 6in pipes 0 10 6 per set Digging drain, carting and laying set of 18in pipes .. .. 1 15 0 D. The deepening of the mam drain is the greatest pai't of the work, so that although the tenders of some of the others are less than that of Mr Lovett, for small jobs, still the saving on the main draing greatly exceeds that. The filling m the approaches to the new "Waitoa bridge is well nigh completed. When the works now about to be undertaken are finished, we will have a passable road from Hamilton and Cambridge to the Thames River. — Correspondent.
