Equal and exact justice to all men, Of Avhatevor state or persuasion, roligiou? or political. Here shall the Press the People's right maintaiu, Gnawed by influence and cnbribed by gain.
The attack ii.pon the Government has been finally settled to come off in the shape of nn amendment to tbe Address in Reply, and, as might have been expected, is levelled, not against tho measnros of the Government, but against the personnel of the Ministry. Tap question on whicli the Ministry went to the country, was really, not one of measures but of men — the hustings cry was not Liberalism against Conservatism; All were agreed upon the necessity of the Liberal programme before the House in the lass session of the lagfc parliament, but all were noc agreed that the right men to carry it out were afc the head of affairs. The " Speech " which we publish elsewhere, has not been received by many Auckland Members with satisfaction. They consider, and nob without reason, that JSorthern interests hare been purposely overlooked, with the object of catching Southern votes. To judge from appearances, ifc would seem that the House is very evenly divided.
