A small subscription was raised to pay fdr advertising and rent of a hall to hold the meeting in. ' There werq eight bankrupties this week, all for trifling amounts with the exception of Father Larkin, Roman Catholic priest, whose liabilities are £1700 and assets £200. A deputation of unemployed waited on the Mayor and said they represented 600 people, many of whose families were utterly destitute. The Mayor promised to see the Harbor Board and ascertain if that body and the Corporation could not find some employment. The ' Times' urges a coalition Government under Mr Macandrew to include Messrs Gisbome, Montgomery, Hall, and Wakefield.
