Mb Whit___b and thb Thames Waikato Railway. — In answer to a question put to him, on Friday night, at the Panmure meeting, the late member for Waikato is reported to have said; — " It was proposed that there should be a. railway from the Waikato to the Thames. Some people thought if the line was taken as far as the Thames river, steamboats could oarry freights down the river to Grahamstown. I was member for the Waikato. A sum of £168,000 was put on the Estimates to make the railway from Hamilton to Te >roha. Sir George Grey, without considering the rights of the Waikato people, instead of commencing the wor* at Hamilton commenced it at Grahamstown. They were expending £17,000 for making a mile and a quarter of railway at Grahamstown. That sum would have oarried the line several miles at the other end. There was ground for just complaint on the part of the Waikato people, that the vote should be diverted m this . manner. No doubt, Sir George Grey was acting for the benefit of his constituents. They ought to be grateful to him. But the Waikato people had just ground of j complaint." j FIBE at Noabuawahia. — Limb's Mills were destroyed by fire, e-irly on Tuesday morning. The fire broke out m the engine-room, about 2 a.m., md m a couple ' of hours, the mill w<*s burned to the ground. The concrete gr *n-*ry escaped, as did nlso the house. The building w-is insured for £2,500. About £800 worth of bre idstuffs were destroyed. The cause of the fire is unknown. Mr Cunninglum will be at Whatawhjt* on Friday, and at Haripepe, on Saturday. Mb T.
