Hamiktok, August 19. (Before W. H. Northcroft, Esq., R.M.) ' ASSAULT. Bauer y. Wilson. — Case dismissed. FUEIOUSLY BIDING. Peter Coleman and James Salmon were each fined in the sum, of £3, and coats, for the above offence. His Worship remarked that on the next case of the kind being brought before him in Hamilton, he wonld inflict the full penalty. DOG TAX. William Peacock, Frederick Forrest, and John Williams were each fined la, and ooats, for allowing their dogs to be at large without j* collar for the current year. Ciyii. Side. ' Margaret Innes v. W. Gr. Harp. — This was a claim against the defendant, a public carrier, for goods lost while in his charge ; claim, £3 6s. Mr O'Neil appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr Hay for the defendant. Defendant admitted receiving them, except one pair of boots, which he alleged were not in the lost kit. The court gave a yerdict for full amount claimed, with costs, £6 2s 6d. This was the only case of public interest on the civil side. August 20. indecent language. t Duncan Mclntosh pleaded guilty to making use of indecent, threatening and abusive language in a public place in the Borough of Hamilton, whereby a breach of the peace might have been occasioned. Sergeant McGovern said the prisoner's language and conduct was .beyond description both before and after he was arrested. His Worship : I see there is another charge entered against the prisoner. *or assaulting tho constable. . I shall hear it before deciding;. On the charge being read to prisoner, he pleaded guilty. , Sergeant McGovern skated the circumstance. His Worship asked if prisoner had anything to say in his defence. Mclntosh said he was in liquor at the Dime, and was now ve^y sorry. His Worship : For the first offence I shall fine you the full penalty, £10 and costs, in default three months imprisoment with hard labor in Mount iSden Gaol. For the second offence, that of assaulting the constable, I regret to say that it ia not in my power or I would sentence you to six months imprisonment, but I cannot go beyond the Act. I shall, however, inflict a fine of £10 and costs, in default two months imprisonment.
