The letter cf Diogenea, and the full report of St. Andrew's Church Meeting, and other local matter, in our next. Mb W. Rowb had a very stormy meeting at Urahamstown, when he attempted to address the electors at the Theatre Royal on Saturday evening. The audience hooted his chairman off the stage, and refused to hear Mr Rowe. Mr Ehenfreid coming into the building was voted into the chair, and Mr Howe again attempted to obtain a hearing but without success. The Native Minister arrived in Waikato on Sunday from Auckland and proceeded in company with Te Wheoro to Kihikihi. They were met by Rewi and a few of the settlers, at the Kihikihi Hotel, where they remained for about three hours, and returned on Sunday evening by the special train which, brought them up. It is but a week or two ago that we had : occasion to notice the liberality of the J Catholic congregation at Cambridge in subscribing towards the liquidation of their church debt. Tho Catholics of Hamilton have followed their good example, the very "satisfactory sum of £66 10s having been raised by subscription on Sunday last, in the Catholic Church, Hamilton, towards the removal of. the existtng debt on the building. We I congratulate the Roman Catholics and their energetic and respected pastor on tbe result. Ngarua-waiiia. Cnußcn Meeting. — A meeting of the Parishioners of Holy Trinity Church, Ngaruawahia, was held on Friday evening, to receive the report of the Gift Auction Committee, and to discuss the question ot repairing the Church. The Rev. W. Calder in the chair. A statement of the result of- the Gift Auction was read, as follows: — Receipts: Donations in cash, £10 Is; proceeds of auction, £71 4s 6d; total, £81 5s 6d. Expenditure : Hire of Schoolroom, 10s; postage, &c, of circulars, 9s 4d ; Waikato Times account, £2 2s; purchase of material for Working Committees, £3 Is lOd; balance, cash in hand, £75 2s 4d; total, £8.1 5s 6d. The debt on the Church, amounted to £25 4s 6d. After paying off this, there remains a balance in hand of £49 17s lOd. The report qf Messrs Hood and Taylor, who had carefully examined the state ©f the Church, was next presented to the meeting. It reported that the building was in a very fair state of repair, with the exception of the foundations of the tower, and the windows. After some discussion, it was decided that the Church Committee be requested to have the building repaired, the windows repaired, louvres in the tower altered, and spouting put round the Church. It was estimated that those improvements would cost £25 or £30. It was ako resolved that the harmonium should be examined by some competent person, and it appeared to be the general opinion, that should it be found necessary to obtain a better instrument, a new one shonld be purchased, with the balance of the funds in hand. A very cordial vote of thanks ■was passed to the people of Hamilton, and other places, for' their co-operation in making the auction the success it was. Votes of thanks were also "accorded to the Proprietor of the Waikato Times, for his liberality in advertising the auction, at a nominal figure; to Mr Hill, for his services as auctioneer ; to the ladies of tho committee and the Secretary, Mr Burnett, for their exertions. A vote of thanks to the chair, brought the meeting to a close. The ELEOTioNs.-^Mr F. A. Whitaker's notice to the electors of Waipa will be found elsewhere, and ihs places and dates of proposed meetings. Mr J. B. Whyte addresses the Waikato electors this evening at Hamilton, and Mr J. P. Campbell at Cambridge. Mr Robert Fergusson has retired from the contest. The days of nomination and polling for either district will also be found in another column. The anniversary of Hamilton^ is to be celebrated on Friday, by a public dinner at the Commercial Hotel, when it is expected that a large number of the 4th Waikato regiment, and fifteen years residents will be present. No doubt an agreeable evening will be spent, comparing the then with the now, of which the old founders of Hamilton, the men who stood by the place through one war panic after another, in ad.dition to contending with the ordinary struggles of easly settlement, may well feel proud. The members of the \rmed Constabulary stationed at Cambridge, formed a quadrille party in the gymnasium on Friday night. It was well attended by the fair sex, and dancing was kept up till . 2 a.m. Refreshments were provided, and the hosts and their guests passed a most enjoyable evening. The Armed Constabulary recruits last enrolled have b,een put through a course of drill instructionby Sergeants Foster and Dunn, and have already exhibited marked efficiency. Considerable improvements have been effected at the barracks, new fences having been erected, and trees planted.
