WAIKATO ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS OF WAIKATO. |?N ENTLEMEN,— It was my intention VT to stand again as a candidate for your district, and looking at the confidence that has hitherto existed between us, it is with regret that I withdraw from that position. It has, however,* been pressed on me that I have a fair claim on the city or suburbs in which I have now resided for nearly 40 years and that, if I could find a Beat for one of those districts, it would be agreeable to my friends in Waikato to return a local representative Aoting in accordance therefore with the advioe of friends in both the district of Waikato and Eden I have offered myself for election fot the latter constituency. Thanking you for the generous confidonce and support you have hitherto given me permit me to add that as long as X am in the Parliament of New Zealand, I shall be ready to advocate the rights and promote the interests of Waikato. I remain, Gentleman, Your Obed/ent Servant, , FREDK WHITAKER. Auckland, August 1&79. TO THE ELEC"ORS OF WAIKATO. |~*ENTLEMEN,— Having been requested by a Jiarge number of my fellow-settlers and being influenced by the wish which I believe to be general that the district should be represented by a local man, whose interests are identified with those of the people whom he represents I have determined to become a candidate for your suffrages at the coming election. It is my intention to address the electors at the various centres of population, place, date and hour to be advertised, when my views will be fully explained. In the meantime, however, as reports are baing industriously circulated (I presume for electioneering purposes) prejudicial to my candidature, I wish to state emphatically that I am quits independent of, and will not be influenced by any clique or ring. Also,' that, although I cannot consent to be a blind follower of any party or man, r intend to support and endeavor to the best of my ability to have carried into effect tho main features of the Liberal polioy as enunciated by the present Government. Assuring you that whether as a member of the House of Representatives or as one of your fellow-settlers I shall always do my utmost for Waikato and endeavor at ail times to put power into the hands of the peoplo— not to deprive them of it.
