.ra,-— ln reference to your Tuhikaramea Correspondent's letter of the Bth instant, m which he is good enough to notice my letter of tho 2nd instant, I may say,' m extenuation, that I wrote more particularly for the information of those who were conversant of the fact of which he speaks, i.e., that only a, very small portion of thfe Parish of Tuhikaramea is included m thfc Newcastle District. A'stk-the second statement, that there had been no money spent m that portion of the Tuhikaramea Parish, by the Newcastle District Board, until last year, "and what was expended there, was handed over to them by our Road Board, out of monies obtained from Government, through the exertions of settlers m this district," your correspondent is m error. The money spent m that small portion of the Tuhikaramea Parish, since 1872, m which year it was joined to the Newcastle District, is as follows :— 1872, £42 ■ 1873, £28; 1875, £12 Ids 8d; 1876, £11 10s 6d; 1879, £170 13s 9d; total, £264 19s lid.

In regard to last year's expenditure, tlie sum so kindly handed over by the Tuhikaramea Board, amounted to £80. The balance, £90 13s 9d, was paid out of a special grant of £700, for Waipa main road, •• monies obtained from Government, through the exertions of settlers m this district."

The rate collected m the portion of the Tuhikaramea Parish above referred to since 1872, to 1879, inclusive, amounts to £142 16s Bd, against an expenditure of £264 19s lid for the same period.— l am &c, C. J. W. Barton. '
