j WAIKATO ELECTION. 3 ' TO THE ELECTORS OF WAIKATO. , fpi ENTLEMEN,— In view of tho Dissolution of the Present Parliament, I beg agai" to offer myself as a Candidate to Represent the Waikato District, m the ext Parliament. __„ ___,_ FREDK. WHITAKER. Wellington, August 4, 1879 TO THE ELECTORS OF WAIPA api ENTLEMEN,— I beg to offer myself as a Candidate for your, suffrages for the forthcoming General Election for Members of the House of Repsesentatives. I am, Gentlemen, your obedient servant, H. ROCHE. WAIPA ELECTION.. T WILL address the Electors at Hamilton, on Wednesday, at 7 p.m. ; t at Ngaruawahia) on Thursday, at 7 p.m; and at Alexandra, on Saturday, at 7 p.m. H. ROCHE. TO THE ELECTORS OF WAIPA. ATi ENTLEMEN.— In offering myself vTT as a candidate to represent you m Parliament, I will briefly state a few of the measures I deem require redress, and the. line of policy I would support if returned. Among the measures requiring redress, I look upon the purchase of Native Lands by private speculators as being m the highest degree unjust to the people, who give a value to that property and security m its possession. The JtLomstead Act should be worked m such a spirit .that the best land (and not the worst as at present) might be thrown open to the sons of Colonists and others who might wish to settle. Progressive taxation of property would cause the largo proprietor to contribute his fair* proportion to the relief of the public burden, and prevent the land falling into the hands of a few. Mandood Suffrage with a residence qualification and sufficient checks to prevent its abuse I look upon as being just, in principle and politic m practice, Triennial Parliament as a necessary check on Representatives. At this crisis, when the schemes of the land ring seem about to be realised, all men of liberal opinions should sink minor considerations, and bind themselves together to return none but men of similar views, m order to secure the lands of the Colony for the people ; and on that platform I offer myself as your representative. JAMES CUNNINGHAM. ELECTORS OF WAIPA. TV/TR. CUNNINGHAM will meet the JjfJL Electors at Kihikihi on Thursday, the 21st, and at Alexandra on Saturday, the 23rd, at 4 p.m. JAMES CUNNINGHAM. rpOTHE ELECTORS OF WAIKATO Gentlemen, — I am a Candidate for your suffrage at the forthcoming election. I shall take an early opportunity of declaring my views. J. B. WHYrE. TjILECTORS OF WAIPA. If returned, I can I only promise, that as heretofore, no exertion shall bo wanting on my part to promote the general good of the district and he colony as a whole. I shall be happy to meet electors at the different centres m the district as may be notified. I am, Gentlemen, your obedient servant EDWAED G. McMINN.
