The concert and dramatic performance in aid of the funds of the Hamilton Ladies' Benevolent Society, will be held this evening in Le Qtiesne's Hall. The programme is, we believe, an interesting one, and the dramatic performance, from the names of the amateurs mentioned as taking part in it, will doubtless be quite as successful as the very popular entertainment given in the same place some few months ago,

I The "Wellington 'Post' Bays: —It is ' understood that the Southern members I have not by any mean* abandoned the i idea that the seat of Government should be changed, and we are informed on the . boat authority that another attempt will \ be made to have the next meeting held at j Christohuroh. A motion to that effect was carried last session, but many who voted in favor of it regarded it as a joke. It appears now, however, that the matter is looked upon seriously by every Southern member in the House, and it is even stated that some of the Northern members joined them on condition that each session shall be held in a different part of the colony. The prime mover in Jthe matter is Mr Shrimski, the membor for Oamarn. The Elections.—Mr Sheehan has announced himself a 9 a candidate for the Thames, and it is expected that >ir George Grey will also seek election from that constituency. Mr McMinn telegraphs to f riedns, that he will contest Waipa; and Mr Hamlin telegraphs to say, that there is no truth in the report of his being raised to the Upper House, but that he will return and contest Franklyn against all comers. On the authority of the 'Herald's' correspondent we learn that the .Loan Bill and the Public Works Appropriation Bill were not ready for the Houso on Monday, and that they were drafted by Mr Whitaker, who has thus accorded a considerable service to the Government. L.O.L.—The usual monthly meeting, adjourned from last Monday, of the Soas of Ulster, will be held on Thursday (this evening), the 7th instant, at the Victoria Hall, Hamilton. Hamilton Local District School.— In consequence of delay in putting up the additions to the above building, the schoolhouse will not be ready for re-open-ing, as expected, on Monday next, nor probably for another fortnight. Due notice of the re-opening, however, will be given. The Town op Ngabuawahia Board is advertising for the services of a Collector and Valuer. Messrs J. D. & K. Hiu. will hold a produce sale on Saturday, at their mart, and also offer town acres in Cambridge and Eihikihi. Mr J. E. Macdonald solicitor, formerly of Grahamstown was on Tuesday formally appointed to the office of District Judge of the Auckland, Waikato and Thames district, in the place of Judge Fenton, resigned. The selection could scarcely have been a more happy one. Mr Macdonald has always held a leading position in his profession, and has brought not only ability but integrity and rectitude of action into the practice of it. He will no doubt make as impartial and painstaking a judge as he will make an able one. The collection made in the Roman Catholic Church, Cambridge, on last Sunday, amounted to the respectable sum of £7O 10s. This is creditable to to the people of Cambridge who are becoming proverbial for generosity and public spirit. Th e result must be very grat if ying toFather Golden and his committee, as it nearly covers the debt on the building. Besides this, we learn that a balance due on the new harmonium has been wiped off, two young ladies of the congregation having raised the amount during the last month.

Mb J* T. Boon announces that he has taken the butchers shop of Mr Cassidy, of Bamilton East, and will commence business as a butcher on Saturday next. Mr Boon will be in a position to supply a first-class article at lowest rates, and naturally looks for a fair share of encouragement and support. Objections to the Land Tax will be heard for "Waipa at Ohatipo on Tuesday next; for Waikato, "at the Waikato County Council Chambers, and for the Borough of Hamilton, at the Council Chambers on the following day; for Piako, at the "VVaitoa School-room, on Friday the 13th inst., and for Raglan, at the Conrt-house, on the 15th inst. At the Resident Magistrates' Court, Hamilton, on Monday, Alexander Watson pleaded gnilty to a Breach of the Vagrant Act, 1866 to wit, having no visible or lawful means of support. Sergeant McG-overn said the Prisoner was discharged recently from Mount Eden Gaol, made his way up the Waikato, and on Saturday night was turned out of several stables in Hamilton. The unfortunate man had no means whatever, and he, the Sergeant feared that there was little hope of his obtaining work, owing to the filthy state he wasin. The Prisoner on being asked by His Worship to state if he had any thing to say, replied in the negative, and was sentenced to three months' imprisonment in Mount Eden Gaol. Public Libeaey foe Ngaeitawahia.— A special meeting of the ratepayers of the Town of Ngaruawahia will be hold tomorrow evening in the Delta Hotel to consider the advisability of adopting the Libraries Act. After the above meeting a second public meeting will bo held to appoint Trustees under the Domain Act for racecourse and other reserves about Ngaruawahia. The Roman Catholic Bishop op Auckland.—The ' Bombay Catholic Examiner,' referring to this subject, says : —" We learn that Archbishop Steins, S" J. late Vicar Apostolic of Calcutta, has been nominated to the Episcopal See of Auckland, vacant for the last four years, since 1875, when Dr Croke was translated to the Archbishopric of Cashel." The 'New Zealand Freeman's Journal' says:—" It may be remarked that the title of the new Bishop of Auckland is that of Archbishop, although the see to which he is now appointed still remains episcopal. Cases of that kind occur but occassionally. Leo XIII. is another case of the same Mud, for when appointed to the See of Perugia, he had the title of Archbishop, and was known as Archbishop of Perugia."
