Sir, — I was very much, surprised to see, by the report of tlie Annual Meeting of the Pukekura Highway Board, held at Pukerimu, on the 12th inst., " That the request of Mr Forgusson, that the Board do boar a share of the expense re s^vey
| of railway line to Cambridge was declined." To prevent the line being delayed for another yeai*, a few gentle^ men took the matter m hand, and arranged that, by paying a bonus of £30, the survey should be completed m time for opening of the Assembly. It was resolved to ask six Highway Boards, who would be directly interested m this line, to contribute £5 each. It was never thought that a wealthy Board like Pukekura would not respond to this appeal, while some districts which are really badly off, and j gain no more by tho line than Pukekura, I have cheerfully, given for tho public good. Hoping the Board will reconsider their decision, and not put themselves under obligation to the surrounding districts for the greatest benefit they can enjoy, viz., a line of rail to their nearest town. — I am, &c, Henry. Reynolds. Eureka, July IG, 1879.
