PUKEKURA HIGHWAY DISTRICT.

ANNUAL MEETING. / Tins meeting was held m the Pukerimu Schoolroom, on Saturday, July 12th. Twenty-three ratepayers were present. Mr E. Lake read the advertisement calling the meeting, and called upon the ratepayers to elect a chairman. Mr Henry Buttle having been elected chairman, asked the Secretary to read tho Statement of Receipts and Expenditure for the year, as follows :— BALANCE SHEET. The Chairman requested any ratepayer to make any remarks upon the statement rCiici Mr Tucker asked if the cutting at Bell's was passed by the Engineer. Answer: Yes, It was proposed by Mr A. Fleming, and seconded by Mr R. Reynolds, that the accouuts, as read, be adopted. Carried. The following gentlemen were proposed as Trustees for the year, namely :— Messrs. Samuel Fleming, "William Scott, John Fisher, E. B. Walker, William Reynolds, Robert Fisher, and George Watson. Mr Edward Lako and Mr Rioluwd Reynolds were appointed scrutineers, when the following were* elected : — Messrs. William Reynolds, of Pukekura ; Wttlium Scottj of Pukerimu ; John JMer>

of Pukerimu ; Samuel Fleming, of Te Rapa; E. B. Walker, of Pukekura. Proposed and seconded, that Mr E. Lake and Mr Joseph Gane be the auditors. Carried. Proposed and seconded, that Mr George Watson and Mr William Tucker be the fence-viewers. Carried. The opinion of the meeting Avas taken as to what rato should bo struck for the district. Als rate m the £ was unanimously adopted. Resolved that the request of Mr Ferguson, of Gorton, that the Pukekura Highway Board do bear a share of the expense m re Survey of the Railway be declined. The Chairman asked the opinion of the meeting, as to the advisability of making some arrangements Avith the Rangiaohia Board, for keeping the portion of road m repair between Mr Fleming's property and Railway station; or of trying to get l the boundaries of this district altered, so as to include the above. It proved to be the opinion of the meeting, that the Council ought to take up the matter, as the road was almost impassible. With regard to the Waipa Council's request, that the services of an Engineer for the different Boards be secured, it Avas resolved that this Board do not agree to such for the present. Proposed by Nr Turner, and seconded by Mr Fleming, that a cordial vote of thanks be given to the out-going Trustees, for the able manner they have carried out the requirements of the district for the last tAvo years. Carried unanimously. Mr P. Cooper paid a compliment to the out-going Trustees, and said that the Pukekura Highway Board's roads wonld compare with any roads m the country for being well made. The usual vote to tho Chairman closed the meeting. At a subsequent meeting of the Trustees Mr John Fisher avos unanimously chosen Chaiiman and Treasurer. It was proposed by Mr William Reynolds, seconded by Mr E. B. Walker, that Mr Hugh Fitzgerald bo Secretary and Collector. Carried. The following account was paid : — John Bell, £12 17s. Resolved that Messrs. Walker, Scott, Fleming, and Reynolds have power to spend to tho amount of £3 m doiug necessary repairs, without calling a meeting. It was arranged that the next meeting be held on the 2nd August.
