Sir John Robertson's proposed clause m the Land Bill ; m consequence, the measure has been abandoned by the Government, In the course of a debate m the Legislative Assembly last night, tho Premier stated that he intended to
submit a motion m reference to the I notion of the Council on the Land Bill. The Premier tabled a series of resolutions against the Councils rejection of the Assembly's carefully considered measures, and recommended the introduction of a Bill to make the Council responsible to the people. The Treasurer submitted proposals for a further loan of £7,787,768, for railways, water supply, and sewage. It is not to be placed m the market for somo time. MELBOURNE, July 9. A writ for £5000 damages has boen issued against the Hon. Mr Berry for slander, by the. 'Daily Telegraph', for saying that that journal was subsidised by the Victorian Association. Weiberg has been committed for trial.
