REPORT OF ANNUAL MEETING OF HAMILTON HIGHWAY DISTRTCT KOARD HELD ON THE STH JULY, 1878. A quorum of ratepayers being present, Mr Jones was elected Chairroan, and Mr E. Wilson, Secretary. The Chairman read the advertisement calling the meeting. The Chairman of fche outgoing Board (Mr Steele) read the report and balance sheet for the past year. Hunt J Saml. Steele, Chairman. Mr Raynes proposed, and Mr Ridler seconded, " That the report and balance sheet, as read, be adopted." The meeting then proceeded to elect Trustees, Auditors and FenceViewers, and on the exact number required being only proposed, they were elected, as follows :— Trustees : Messrs Samuel*Steele, George Edgecumbe, Thomas Jolly, William Hunt and James Raynes. Auditors: Messrs William Jooes and John Atkinson. Fence Viewers : Messrs James Brown and John Ridler. Mr Knox proposed, and Mr Ridler seconded, " That tbat portion of road between Cox's farm and fche boundary of the borough be gravelled, and that a letter be written to tbe Borough Council, asking them to co-operate m the work." Mr Steele read a letter frarn the Waipa County Council, requesting the option of the Ratepayers, at the Annual Meeting, as to the advisability of appointing an Engineer for the County, whose salary will be paid by'the Council. Mr Edgecumbe proposed, and Mr Atkinson seconded, " That this meeting agree to the proposal ot bbc Council, provided thab this Board will not pay more for- Engineer's services than five per cent, on work for which they require an Engineer." This terminated the proceedings of the Annual Meeting, after which a meetirg of tlie newly elected board took place. Mr Samuel Steele, the outgoing Chairman, wa_ again * elected to that position.
1 lb was resolved thab the meetings I be held on fche first Saturday of each nionth, at two p.m., and that all cheques be signed by the Chairman and one member.* Ifc was also resolved that Mr William Huut is to exercise supervision of the Narrows bridge approach, and Messrs Jolly and Edgecumbe over the Station road, with power to employ such labour as may be deemed necessary to keep it iv repair. A few accounts were then paid. It was decided to hold a special meeting on the 19th inst., for the purpose of receiving the report of the Engineer, respecting the bridge at Stokes' Crossing.
