The Victorian Eevenue.— The • Age' anticipates a deficiency m the -Victorian revenue of £200,000, and believes that the Treasurer will be compelled to impose further taxation tp the extent of £400,000, through the Customs excise and stamp duties.

OS-BIOH FAKMING IN NEW SoUTH WALES. — Six ostriches have arrived at Port Jackson from the Cape as the neuclus of an ostrich farm.

Me Matjeice O'Sulltvan, who is well known to many of our Waikato settlers, has taken the Occidental hotel, Per kin' slate hostelry, the sporting house of Auckland. As the enterprising host of the ''Exchange" and also of the Cosmopolitan hotels m Auckland, Mr and Mrs o' Sullivan have made themselves deservedly appreciated. The " Museum at the Occidental has become quite an institution, and has been turned over with the business to the new proprietor.

A meeting: of the Waikato County Council was held yesterday. The principal business was the receiving the plans ahd estimates prepared by Mr Breakell, at the instruction of the Council, for a branch railway from Cambridge to connect with the Thames -Waikato line, near Hamilton. The line laid out by Mr Breakell, is eleven miles and twenty-nine chains m length, and presents no engineering difficulties whatever. There is only one bridge of any span worth speaking of on the entire route. The approximate cost is set down at £25,000 for construction, &c, £3,000 for fencing, and some £1,600 for legal and other expenses, altogether under £30,000. Mr F. Whitaker, M.H.R. for Waikato, had promised to take charge, m the Assembly, of the memorial and accompanying plans and documents, and Captain Steele, the Chairman of the Council, proceeds to Auckland to-day, to hand them over to Mr Whitaker, who leaves Auckland for Wellington on Tuesday. Tlie Council, amongst other business, approved of the stoppage of some ten miles of road m the Tamahere Highway District, and the taking of land for some other eleven miles m its place. The Council also approved the stopping of the road to the river, through Mr Graham's property, m the Cambridge Highway District.

The residents of, and visitors to, Cambridge will be glad to see theii- old friend Mr R. Kirkwood acting " mine host " m their midst again. As proprietor of the National Hotel for some years Mr Kirkwood made himself popular with the travelling public, and, as proprietor of tho " Cambridge," we wish hxm a similar success.

A Handicai? Pioeon Match will take place on Saturday next, at Ohaupo, for a sweep. There will be post entries, and the handicappers will be chosen by the subscribers.
