MINISTERIAL INTENTIONS.
The ' New Zoalander' apparently speaking with confidence, says the public may rest assured that at present Ministers have no intention of throwing up their appointments. The same paper also says that " notwithstanding the withdrawal of the Treasurer, the Ministry Avill be prepared to meet tho House with a full account of their stewardship. PROPOSED MINISTER OF EDUCATION. The samo journal says the offico ©f Minister of Education must be filled, and suggeajts W. Gisborne. It adds, "It may bo for thovAhrio being that the Premier will accerfl the responsibility of the Attorney. CrWral's and the Treasurer. DUNEDIN, Monday. Rain has placed the railway bridge at Outram iv such an unsafe state that the authorities there have telegraphed to the district engineer for permission to be allowed to cut it away m the interest of their own safety. The approach to the Taieri Road Bridge has been washed away, consequently all communication with Outram is cut off. The settlers fully expected the Taieri River would overflow and inundate the township, but fortunately it subsided a little. At Okio the line is about six feet deep m water. The engineer tried to pilot tho cngino over but failed. The engine-driver was up to 11 o'clock this morning trying to got a surface trolly over, but without effect. Railway communication north and south is still interrupted, owing to the damage done to tho line by floods. In the Taieri district the river is high, and considerable damage has been done.

It commenced to rain agaiu shortly after midnight, and is now raining heavily. The damage to the province will be enormous,
OUTRAM, Monday.
There is every appearance of severe floods here hi Taieri. The river is now about level with the township, but is hald back by the embankment. It is raining now heavily aud incessantly.
CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday.
It has not been raining so heavily today, and the water hi the flooded districts districts has subsided considerably. It is not expected that a train will bo got through to Dunedin before Saturday. At Akaroa, and on the peninsula, a vast amount of damage has been done to the roads. .
Telegrams from all parts of the country shew a deplorable state of affairs. Rain has begun all over the Frovince. Railway communication is interrupted every where. The rain is heavier than yesterday. The weather was so warm yesterday that the snow on the ranges is melting, and m the Waimakariri particularly a terrific flood is threatening. Au adjourned session of the Diocesan Synod was commenced to-day. A report of the commission appointed to consider the financial arrangement was read. It recommended the securing of more accurate stipends and greater regularity of payment, and to effect which it is proposed to establish a Board of Assessors to classify the cures m the diocese, andfix the minimum guarantee for the cure. It is suggested this should be divided into two classes, the first of which should guaranteo a stipend of at least £240, and the other of at least £200. The minimum salary of a priest m sole charge is to be £280, to be increased to £300 as soon as possible. The difference between this and the guarantoe is to be made up from the general church funds. DUNEDIN, Tuesday. Some 116 men applied to-day for work on tho section of the Otago Central railway, set apart for the purpose of providing work for the unemployed.
