HAMILTON RIFLE VOLUNTEER COMPANY.

There was a large attendance yesterday evening, at the meeting called for the purpose of enrolling members of the newly formed company of Hamilton Rifle Volunteers, and electing officers. Oapt. Dawson was voted to the chair, and introduced the subject of the meeting, by reading the telegram receieved from Col. Lyon, stating that the services of the company had been accepted by the Government, and published m this journal. Sixty members were enrolled, and took the oath. Capt. Thos. Dawson, late of the 67 Regt., was elected, by acclamation, Captain of the new corps. For Lieutenant, Volunteers O'Neill, W. C. Breakell and J. K. McDonald were proposed. A ballot was taken, when there were, for O'Neill, 27 ; Breakell, 24 ; MoDonald, 8. Volunteer O'Neill was declared duly elected.

On a motion made, it was decided, on the voice, that Mr Breakell be Sub-* Lieutenant.

The meeting then proceeded to the election Non- Commissioned-Officers, as follows : — Color-Sergt., Jas. Warren ; Sergeants, B. Coleman and T. Wallis. It was decided to hold over the election of Corporals till it was seen who were best qualified to hold the position. After some discussion, it was decided to adopt the medium Enffeld Rifle as the arm af the Corp, till such time as the Government should be able to supply breechloading rifles. , -;• On the motion of Mr J. R. McDonald it was resolved that the uniform should be scarlet tunic, black trousers, with red stripe and helmet. Facing to be decided by a committee.

On the motion of Captain Dawson, soconbed by J. Coleman, it was decided that the corp should be named "The Hamilton Light Infantry Y/tiunteers." A committee consisting of »flve officers non-commissoned om^ers^Sfiii volunteers McDonald, 'Field, Small, and Kelly was appointed to manage the business of the corp.

The first drill was appointed to take place on at the Victoria Hall, on Friday next, at 7 p.m. sharp.
