NATIVE MEETING.

A native meeting takes place tomorrow, at Kopua. Your Correspondent is invited vp #i The article m yesterday's Waikato Times has caused great excitement amongst the natives. Houana and Tuhi are here, and express great sympathy with Mair, Searancke and Jackson, ,at the unjustifiable attack made upon them by the ' Hawkes Bay Herald.'
[press agency.] WELLINGTON, last night. There is dissension in the Cabinet with respect to the filling up of the vacant portfolio. Nothing- absolute is known, save that the Pre- ■ mier insists on Rees or Moss taking Mr, Stoat's place. Ministers are divided on the matter. The Hinemoa has taken this evening some 50 more Armed Constabulary for Waihi, who will be landed as close to flawera as possible, which will make the Waihi garrison 150 strong, when the onus of keepiug the peace and protecting property will be thrown on the A.C. Force instead of the settlers.
The ' Chronicle' this evening, officially states that if the natives again 1 resume ploughing-, be the force great or small, they will be seized by the A.O. and locked up, when they will be brought before a Magistrate, and be m 'due course committed for trial for forcible entry. The Government do not propose to treat the natives as rebels, bnt as oidinary criminals. Meantime, the area over which the ploughing is being carried on 13 day by day extending m places from the the "White Cliffs to Hawera.
Great surprise is manifested among many people concerning the Governor acceding to Rewi's proposals entertained by the Ministry, and Rewi's statement that he might not go to Auckland again. It is stated that, m the event of Messrs Mair, Searancke, Jackson or Moore bringing an action against the ' Hawkes Bay Herald,' for the scurrulous libels published upon them, that Dr Buller will be retained for the defence. The ' Herald,' of the 25th, publishes an apology, stating that it had been misled. TAURANGA, Thursday.
Mr Gair, manager of the National Bank, afc Tauranjja, was found by the accountant this morning- lying iv a pool of blood on the bank floor, shot through the head. He is supposed to have committed suicide, but no explanation is yet offered for the deed.

CHRISTCIf UROH, Tharsday. About 300 unemployed marched yesterday to the Sydeubam Borough Council Chambers and' asked for' work. A deputation from the" men waited on a coinniitfcee "of the Council la3t night, and a promise was madoto put a number to work on Friday. The result was communicated at ID o'clock to the assemblage waiting m Cathedral Square.
