CAMBRIDGE FARMERS' CLUB.
[We give the following abridged report of the meeting of the Cam- ! bridge farmers' Club held on Monday night, the full report of our own correspondent, too late for yesterday's mail, but (as he informed us by telegram) sent by hand yesterday, not having reached us] :— Over twenty members were present at the meeting held on Monday Bio-he last. " ° PROPOSED CATTLE SHOW. A correspondence was read between the Borough Council and the Club on the above subject. The letter iroin the Borough Council was to the effect that the Council would be willing to find a piece of land stable for holding the Show, bat,
they couM not vote the Borougt iumU for the poVpoae, but th< members of the C'umoil individual^ would do their utmost to support th< Show. On the motion of Mr E. Maclean tho covrcsnondonco was laid on th( table till s.ritsi- the question of hold. in£ the Show was discussed. . Mr Buttle then moved, that tlu Show, linger iho auspices of the Club, for 1879, bo hold ac Hamilton "West, at a site convenient to the H;-i.!w;»y Station. Mr M ines Rimciman, seconded. Air E. Maclean moved, as an amendment, that the Show be held m Sydney Square, Hamilton East. Mr Foroussou proposed that the Show be held at Cambridge this year. Mr William Marty n seconded Mr Whitaker s.-iiil he thought the best place to hold the show this year «vas at Cambridge, He had found out the feeling of tha Club on the matter. Mr J. B. Whyle thought the proper place was Hamilton West, but, would rather have it ac Cambridge if there was a minority, even a numerically large minority if they were influential,- against holding it at the fovmev place. Mr Fisher then suggested that the ammendment he had seconded bo withdrawn. After some further discussion Mr Maclean agreed to withdraw his amendment, Mr James J?,unciman was m favour of holding tho show at Hamilton West, as he believed that it would tend to cement the whole district together, Mr Fisher proposed that no show be held at all by the Club, this year. Mx* E. Macleau seconded. Some further discussion ensued, and the counter amendment of Mr Fisher, was put, • the proposer and seconder alone voting for it. Mr fcV.frusson's amendment was then put Una the Show for this year be held at Cambridge, and nine votes were recorded m favor of it. On the motion by Mr Buttle being put it also had nine votes, and the Chairman then gave his casting vote, m fiivor of the amendment which was then declared carried. The fc'hov7 will therefore be held at Cambridge. This was considered by all present as the best thing that, could take pi ace under the circumstance?. The nomination of the Show Committee was adjoWned till next meeting.
