AUCKLAND CATTLE MARKET.
MR. A. BTTOKLAND'S "WEEKLY BEPOBT. On Friday May 2nd, at the Haymarket, hay was offered m less than the usual quantity, and Hold at — for meadow, 4s 3d to ss ; oaten, 4s to 5s 6d the cwfc. ; maize, 4s 3d ; oats, 3s to 3s 3d the bushel. Horses, were brought forward ift increased numbers The prices obtained were — for heavy draught, £38 10s to £45; medium draught, £14 to £30 ; hacks, light harness from £7 to £13 6s. At Waiuku, on Saturday, there was a fair muster of cattle, principally calves, and dairy cows, which sold at Remuera rates.
At. Pukekohe, on. Sunday, about 100 head were penned. Dairy cows from £7 to £11; yearlings,- £3 to £3 17s 6d; calves, 45s to 50, each. On Tuesday, hides were pitched m larger numbers than usual. Good, sound and heavy brought 3£d and 3£d ; inferior aud damaged, 2d to 2£d the lb. ; tallow, 27s to 28s the cwt. sheepskins from lid to 21d eaoh ; lambswool, 4 $ the lb. At Remuera on Thursday, dairy cattle were m good request, at higher values. Store cattle plentiful, but fully maintained last week's prices. t Fat cattle were m moderate numbers, 124 head yarded, generally of small size, but good quality. Prices at opening of sale were higher, but foil as the sale proceeded to last week's values from 26s to 30s, averaging, for good cattle, 28s the lOOlbs. Sheep were m average number, under 600 yarded. Prices were lower, and ranged from l£d to 2£d the lb. Well fed porkers and fat calves m brick demand-

' Horses. — Dulness has characterised the market; few of a really good stamp were submitted by auction on b'riday, although quite the usual number were entered. We quote hacks from £6 to £16 ; light harness from £11 to £24 ; unbroken light harness colts, £15 to £21. Cattle. — The supply on the whole has been large. The demand for dairy and store stock has continued steady at last week's rates. • Fat beasts have been m large supply, and for inferior descriptions there was a slightly downward tendency. We quote : — Weaned calves from £1 16s to £2 11s; yeaaling steers from £3 to £3 15s; two-year and three-year-old steers m fresh condition, from £4 15s to £7 12s 6d ; yearling heifers £3 to £3 10s; two-year-olcl heifers, from £4 to £5 ss ; i store cows, m fresh condition, from £5 to £7 2s 6d ; springing cows from £8 to £11 ; beef, best quality, 28s to 30s ; inferior, from 23s to 25s per lOOlbs, Sheep. — The market has been fully supplied both with stores and fat sheep, and there was a downward tendency m prices. At Newmarket, on Tuesday, several pens were withdrawn f oa higher I prices, vendors being unwilling to submit to a serious decline. Best wethers sold from 15s to 17s : mixed sexes, from 8s to 14s 6d ; store ewes, from 5s 6d to 7s each.
