MAOAPIKO ELETORAL ROLL.

Sib,— I beg to call the attention of the Chairman of the Waipa County Council through the columns of the Waikato Traps to the way m which our Electoral RoU . fo F Mangapiko aiding has been manipulated,, and to explain, why two men paying seperaj* rates, because they are partners m>vsia.ess, should be entered on the roil a^ a, firm, and only have one vote A -4 am, &c., Aitfros.

Sir,— ln your issue of the Bth inst. Taxpayer makes some very pertinent remarks re location of Electoral Roll— his grievance however, is small m comparison to that of the ratepayers of the Newcastle Ridm<v One would, imagine that our representative wmld have been able to inform the Council that the residence of Mr Henry Byron is perhaps the most out of the way place that oould possibly be selected as all ratepayers m the district do not require to. »ajse money, insure life, or make miscellaneous purchases. The Council might haw had a little consideration, as well as common sense, and have left the roll either at Whatawhata or Ngaruawahia—or as both places are m the ricW and both separate road boards would it not have been better to have a copy for each or at least show the roll alternately at both townships. Ngaruawahia is occasionally visited by Whatawhata settlers and those m the neighborhood Tisit it once a week. Only fancy every ratepayer m Ngaruawahia and WhatS whata havang^to pay a visit to Te Kaov to which (although a deal of money ha* been spent upon it) there is not even a. Hamdton Ridmg electors having to go to Mr S. Steole^s residence.— l am, &c JrUKETE. ' ** "WNiwJiata, Bth May IB7a,

A statement appears m the 'Herald that Captain Porter has been communicated with by the Government, and asked to take command of a body of Ngatiporaus m the case of war at Taranaki, and that he consents .
