NGARUAWAHIA LIBRARY.

The Annual Meeting of the subscribers was held at the Delta Hotel, on Saturday, the 26th insb. Mr H. Byron, Chairman, of Committee, in the chair. Twelve subscribers were p'resont, four of whom belonged to the out-going committee. Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman stated that the number of books belonging to the library, on the 31st August, 1878, was 282; on the 21st April, 1879, 335, and v the subscribers at present number 37. Twenty-two of the new books were presented by the Auckland Board of Education, principally historical and scientific. The Treasurer . read the following statement of accounts, which was duly passed : — Receipts. — By sale of cottage, £61 4s ; rent of cottage, os 6d ; subscriptions, £13 16s; total, £80 6s. Expenditure. — To Bank balance 3 1st August, 1878, £45 10s; Bank interest, £2 16s ; Waikato Times account, £3 10s ; Upton's account (books), £4 2s 6d; Commission collecting subscription paid Librarian, 14s; Rates library cottage, minute book, &c, £1 15s Id ; balance being ca?h in hand, £21 18s sd ; total, £80 6s. Audited and found correct, , Tiros. Paterson, John Gilmottr. Messrs Burnett, Hunt, Byron, Ewen and Davis were elected a committee for. the current year. The trustees of the library reserve reported that they had been promised subscriptions towards building a public hall and library, amounting to £38 3s, which probably might be increased to £50, but seeing that the building would eost about £250, they had abandoned the idea for the present.
