ARRIVAL OF THE PREMIER AND NATIVE MINISTER.

The s.s. Hiuemoa, with Sir George Grey and Mr bheehan; Mr Lewis, Under-secretary for Nativa Affairs j Mr Von Stunner, R.M., Hokianga ; Mr Greenway, interpreter; and a number of chiefs of the Ngapuhi and Rarawa tribes, arrived m the harbor yesterday afternoon. The natives who have came up will proceed to Waikato this morning to attend the native meeting. As to the proceedings of Ministers with regard to that meeting, there* ij no certainty as yet. Tawhaio, who has called the meeting, has net as yet sent any invitation, and, of course, Ministers will not attend without that. What motive may be moving the Maori King we do not know. He may desire to have a general meeting of the natives.for the purpose of consolidating his power, and not wish Ministers to be present. Or, he may have been so acted upon by the agenoies of those who desire to prevent a settlement being come to at present, m thai; they may attain certain objects of their own m land speculations, that he feels m a complete dfficulty, and so has not sent an invitation. However, the matter stands m this position at present. The next subject which presents itself for specuv lation is, what will be the procedure if Tawhiao does not invite Ministers, out can-it B out this meeiug without them ? Ii all probability his doing 'so Would give umbrage to a part of the Ngatimaniapoto and other tribes, who would then be more freely and directly dealt with by the Government. At present the programme is. that Ministers proceed to Waikato pu Thursday to turn the first sod of the Waikato end of the Thames- Waikato railway. —'Herald,' April 28.
