I AUCKL AND CATTLE MARKET. , MR. A. BUCKLAND'S WEEKLY REPORT. At the Haymarket, on Friday, April , 18, hay Was in moderate quantity, less than average, and prices ranged fronv4s to 5s 6d the cwt.. Potatoes, £5 5s the ton ; Californian barley, -3s and 3s 3d ; white oats, 3s 3d ; black oats, 3s 9d ; cocksfoot seed, 8s ; rye grass, 6s 3d and 6s; wheat, 4s 2d the bushel. Inferior and small sized horses, from £3 to £7, ; draught horses, of medium strength, suitable for ploughing, in request, and brought from £16 to £32.
At Pokeno, on Monday, above 100 head of cattle were yarded, and found ready buyers at full market values, a few inferior calves only being passed. Yearlings brought from £3 to £3 10s; two-year-olds, £5 ; three-year-olds, £5 15s and £6; dry cows, £5. Hides and skins were offered in larger number than usual, on Tuesday, but many of the hides, were not well cured, and brought , from l£d to 2£d; those in goad order from 3£d to 3£d the lb; the greater part of the skins from 9d to Is 3d, but a few of ohoice quality from 2s 2d to 3s each; tallow, 27s 6d the cwt.
At Remuera, on Thursday, dairy oattle were in request, prices from £10 to £12. Store cattle in good demand, three-year-old steers brought £6 16s to £8 15s ; „ two-year-olds, £5-s's to £6 10s ; yearlings, £3 10s to £4 2a 6d ; two-year-old heifers, £4 6a to- £5 ; yearlings, £2 10s to to £3 15s ; calvesj 25a to 45s each. Fat cattle were in full supply, 135 head yarded'. Last week's prices were sustained, varying from 27s 6d to 32s 6d the IOOTob. Store sheep were at low values. Aged ewes, 2s 6d to 3s 6d ; lambs, 3s to 4s each. Fat sheep in full numbers (above 1000 sold), but of small size; prices from 2^d to 3d the lb., with a good demand.
MESSRS HUNTER AND NOLAN S WBEKLY BEPORT. Horses. — There has been a tolerable good, supply, and last week's demand has continued. About the usual -number were entered for disposal by auction, and found ready purchasers. There remains an unsatisfied demand for good upstanding young geldings for coaching purposes, and young draught stock finds ready purchasers. We quote : Hacks, from £5 to £16 10s; light harness horses, from £12 to £22 10s ; medium draught, £27 10s ; heavy draught, from £32 to £47 12s. Cattle. — Dairy cows at their profits are not quite so high in price as last month. , Stores maintain their value, and for well ' fatted light weights, an advance of 2s Gel per lOOlbs was given on last week's prices. We quote dairy cows from £8 15s to £10 10s; dry cows, from £4 5s to £6; calves and yearlings, from 30s to £3 ss ; two-year-old steers, from £4 to £5 17s 6d; three-year-old steers, from £5 to £& 7s j 6d ; working oxen, £24 per pair ; beef, 30a to 355.
Sheep have been ia good supply and steady demand. Well-fatted wethers sold for about Is per head higher; other descriptions were unaltered in value. Lambs were rather scarce, and sold at from 6s to 10s 9d.
