DR BEALE'S DEED OF ARRANGEMENT.

Sir,—ln the matter of the deed of arrangement in bankruptcy of Dr Beale, as published by Gazette notice, in the Auckland 'Star,' of the 2Gth inst., can you inform me how it is that the meeting of creditors is fixed tc bo holden at the Supreme Court, Auckland, on the 16th April, instead of being held at tho Courthouse, Hamilton, as the greater number of the creditors live in and about Hamilton. I take it that such proceedurc will have the effect of debarring nine-tenths of the creditors from attending the meeting, and thereby enable tAvo or throe of the larger creditors to cany matters with a hand. It seems to me a usual thing, that such meetings are held in a place most convenient to the majority of sufferers, and I would like to know why the usual course has beea departed from. —I am, &c, A Creditor. Hamilton, March 27, 1879.

Sib,—l notioa that Messrs J. and "YV. Rutherford have replied to my letter, which appeared in the ' Star,' stating that they are willing to run "Sportsman" against " Loafer," on the following conditions, viz., welter weight for age, and £SO to go to the Kaitangata Relief Fund. Regarding the weights, I made what I considered to be a fair proposal, that the horses should run with tiio same weights up as on the second day at Ohaupo, when - Loafer" was beaten; and I leave it to the public to judge whether this was or A\i-i n:>t a fair and reasonable proposal. th« second condition of £SO to to the Kaitaugata Re'ief Fund, I may inform the Messrs Rutherford that, as soon as I heard of the accident. I handed a sum of £2 2s to Mr R. R. Hunt, 0 f JNgaruawahia, to initiate a fund in W»iicato, an example which I have yet to learn the Me-srs Rutherford have followed. Having thus evinced my sympathy with those who have been unfortunately left destitute by that accident, I do not consider that 1 am called upon to go to great expense (in training, &c.) and run the risk of a large pecunary loss, to sa isfy the caprices of those who reply to my challengo, by proposing conditions which they must be aware it would be im:)os a ible for me to entertain.— 1 am, &c, War. Walker. Cambridge, xVtarch 23, 1879.
