ALEXANDRA.

March 17, 1879. Last week was a fairly busy one for our storekeepers, numbers of natives being down with produce. Flour and sugar comprised their principal purchases, with gay prints for the wahines to out a dash at the forthcoming meeting, the date of which, however, has not heen as yet fixed. Tawhiao has been busy at the road-making from Kawhia. One party came over from thence on Thursday last, bringing a large quantity of dried fish. Tawhiao himself was at Kopua on Friday, inspecting the preparations heing made there to house the people, which is heing done on a very extensive scale. Te Heufceu is reported to be on the road with 1,000 sheep. Taonui brought over 13 head cattle, and has returned to Mokau for 100 pigs. Wahanui and other chiefs will also contribute largely to the commissariat department. Tawhiao hopes and expects this to be the largest meeting m numbers yet held by him. Te Ngakau (or Tuatua) has been over to Maungatautari, making a road to get the steam threshing machine there to thresh his crops. I hear he wishes the meeting to be postponed until this is done, so that he may diiipose of them and purchase food with the prooeeds. Tawhiao's eldost daughter, Te Huia, returned to Kopua yesterday from a visit to Major Mair's. She now intends coming out m European style, and has heen getting riding habits, dresses, &c , made m the latest fashion. — Own Cobbespondent.
