pAbTOit Chiniciuy (says tho Melbourne ' Argus ' ) waa welcomed to M olbourue at a public meeting at the Temperance Hall, liussell-street. Mr A C. Ramsay presided, and on the platform were several prominent members of the Loyal Orange Institution and some Presbyterian clergyniftii. There was a numerous attendance. The proceedings having been opened by singing and prayer, the Rev. Mr Sutherland, of Sydney, rcud a letter from the Presbyterian Church of Montreal, accrediting Mr Chiniquy. An address of welcome was then presented from the Loyal Orange Instituti n of Victoria, assuring Mr • hiniquyoi the Institution's assistance and protection during bis stay m tho colony. Mr Chiniquy, m commencing his address, returned thanks for his kind reception. 'Ihcn after saying that ho had not come to Molbourno to excito ill-fooling between Catholics and Protestuufcs or to abuse liis old friends the Rom n Cn-ilnlics, whom he "loved and cheridhed," baying b?en a priest for twenty-fivo yoara, — ho went on to mako na elaborate attack on the Church of Rjino, He said he spoke m all charity, and he contended that ifc was false charity to allow «' the poor rish Roman Catholics to believe tho* were m the right way." By the blessing of Provi ence, lie believed tho Roman Catholics would themselves come to bless his labor.-*. In the course of his remarks, he made the statement that " the Church of Rome was hoasiing that she would talo possession of Great Britain, and bring tho great and noble people of that country to tho feet of tho Popu."
