A letter from Mr Laybourne, re the dispute between Government and the Pukekohe settlers, about supplying puriri sleepers, severly censures Mr Stewart's action m breaking the agreement with settlers. At the Mahuraugi Show, John Barton won. tho special prize of ten sovereigns, for the best young bull, bred from the Messrs Morrin's stock. This bull calf also won the champion prize, for best bull on the ground. The Church Bazaar, held m Irwin's Marquee, is well patronised. FIRES I-\ THE NORTH. More tires are reported. The Tuhoa Block is m great danger. Hood Bros, intended to send 30 'or 40 sheep and cattle to the Show, but were unable to bring them, being surrouuded by tire- Mulligan's homestead was m great dauger. The stacks of hay ignited, but the ilames were extinguished with water. Mulligan's arm was much burned. Mr Eyre had all his standing kauri destroyed, and a small flock of sheep roasted alive. Boler's fence was burned, and his house narrowly escaped. At a meeting of the Board of Education to-day a uunaber of small applications from Hamilton West and other districts received were reported upon. Applications from the inhabitants ot Newcastle, asking the Board to permit the formation of a sew Sohood District for the accommodation of the increasing population, was held over for future consideration. GRA.HAMSTOWN, lasb njghfc. The road between the Thames, Katikati and Tauranga will be pushed on. The County will expend £930 from the votes for roads m native districts, and the Tauranga Council are expected to spend £1,500 on their part.
