OH, JERUSALEM ! JERUSALEM ! !
Our small, unhappy township Is beset with many woes — For though inhabitants are few, They all are deadly foes. The Scribes against the Publicans — Each store, however small, Produces its own champion, but The Chemist beats them all ! We all are much like chemicals, Whose powers may be abused, But, m the hands of skilful men, To advantage may be used. In future, we (against our wish) Two publics must maintain, Aud worthless legal services Obnoxiously retain. No school committee can be found School matters te transact — Too much reform m management The Chemist will expect. We thought the Railway Terminus Our township would adorn, But purposes " synthethical " Have left us all forlorn. And we are here to mourn our lotTo howl, and pull our lugs ; The only man who chuckles is The " Mixer of the Drugs !" Maria O'Hbeney. Te Awamutu, Feb. 11, 1879.
