The Hre is now destroying Adair's. There was a veiy strong wind, fortunately from the south, oth-rwiae there would have been no hope for Jmost the whole town. The fire >riginated in Nasmith's or Best's. Wllliug hands saved much goods, but they wera greatly knocked about. There is no possibility, at present, of ascertaining the loss, but it will be enormous. The brick walls of the new building of the Bank of iN'ew Zealank, stopped the progress of the fire up the street.
