PUBLIC WORKS.
WAIKATO THAMES RAILWAY AND OTHER WORKS. The following telegraphic corros. pondehce, which has taken place between Mr McMinn, the member for Waipa, and the Hon. James Macandi'ew, Minister for Public Woiks, lias {jeon handed to us for publication j-^-Mr McMinn, to tho Hon. the Minister for Public Works, Wollington— Public Works are not being proceeded with, as promised. Nothing is done in reference to Waikato and Thames railway, no? Hamilton branch railway. The bridgo is of srst importance, evon as a matter of economy, owing to the length of time required in its construction. Great dissatisfaction prevails at the loss of time incurred during the best part of the working season. Edwabd G. McMinn. The Minister for Public Works, to Edwd. G. McMinn, Esq.., M.H.R.— All the works enumerated by you, are beiug proceeded with faster than any similar works ever were previously. It is impossible to do more than is being done, and I fear public dissatisfaction will not accelerate matters. There arc a groat many preliminary operations to be got over, before work's can be actually commenced, which, were you in, my shoes, you would speedily discover. I have atitkorised a.large extension of staff, and, I fear, exceeded my duty in accelerating these works, and regrofc that I got no heifer thanks.—J. Macandrew. Government Buildings, Jan. 18,1878.
