ALEXANDRA.

February 10th, 1879.

Oira Sunday School children enjoyed ihem-selvea greatly here, on Friday last, under the superintendence of the Kev. dr Brady, Mr Gk V. IWall, president of ;ae sch)ol teachers, and the Misses S. ■inch, b\ Hooper and P. ir'riuce. They were conveyed in vehicle.-), kindly provided jy various settlers, to the farm of Dr Haddington, at the junction of the Puniu aid Wuipa Rivera, to a p:o-nic, whioh lad been provided for them by the ladies )£ the township. The weather was all chat could be desioed, and the spot selected a most pleasant one, with plenty of shelter under the acacia grove, where swings .vere erected for the the general imusement. Rounders and other games were indulged in most heartily, and races, for which prizes had been provided, and were well contended for by the children of both sexes. Peaches were there in quantities, on the trees, and luxuries such as children delight in, were freely distributed by Mesdames Allen and Wilson, .VEiss Finch and tho other ladies of the party. Some 80 children were present, and upwards of 40 adults, including \lajor Mair, Captain No wall and the Rev Heta Tarawhiti and Mrs Tarawhiti, all of whom did their utmost in contributing to the young ones enjoyment. After a most happy day, which will not be forgotten by them for some time to oome, the youngsters were conveyed back to the township. Mr McQ-uire, the mail driver, who kindly came out for the purpose, taking a full load back of the young folks, whose hearts broke out in songs of rejoicing, the whole of the way home. The return ciicket match between the Alexandra and Tuhikarainea Clubs, cams off on Saturday, last, in Mr F. Vickers' paddock, at Ngahthepouri. The first match played in Alexandra was won by the Tuhikaramea team, and our Alexandra team went down on Saturday, fully determined, if possible, to regain their laurels. A tent had been; erected on tho ground, for the accommodation of the | visitors and ourselves, by the kind ! thoughtfulness of Mr Vioars. The two Captains, Messrs E. B. Uox and Lacon, having tossed for ohoice, Alexandra won, and, elected to send their opponents to the wickets. Mr E. B. Cox, as will be seen by the soore below, was the highest scorer in the match, as indeed he was the main stay of his side throughout the game. His score for 22, in tho first innings, was well and steadily played, and he received an ovation on returning to the tont, carrying out his bat. Messrs Boiielii and Taylor also played well, on tho same side, and the umpire, Mr Weetby's, decisions gave general satisfaction. For tho Alexander* players, Mr Alexander, " although entirely out of practice, was about the best, and his style of play was much admired, and but for being run out, while trying to make another run for a five hit, made by Lacon, it was thought he would have run Cox close for score. After a most interesting game, tho Alexandrians .won -by 21 runs. The Tuhikaramea team hospitably entertained their visitors, and thejiunpst feeling prevailed on both sides most pleasant match. Tho usual complimentary cheers were heartily given on both sides, and responded to with throe more for the Umpire and Mr Vicars, and the ladies, before the departure of the visitors, ALEXANDRA V.
