THE CATHOLIC MISSION.

Father Hennebery's Mission closed on last Sunday evening. On Friday, he preached hia temperance sermon, at which some hundreds took the pledge. From tbat date, until tho olose of the Mission, he administered the pledge at tho several exercises, so that about 400 people, abogother, enrobed themselves under the banner of temperance. At the 11 a.m. Mass, there was a large congregation, from all parts of the V aikato. The Rev. Missionary preached un excellent sermon, on the value of time, and then announced a temperance procession for 3 p.m. At the time appointed, a large concourse of people had assembled by the Churoh, aud soon a procession was marshalled, m splendid order, by Father Hennebery. Boys led the vau, then came girls, young ladies, married men, bachelors, married ladies, tho clergy m a carriage, and horsemeo m the rear, .vlounted M&rshalls kepi order along the line. Some 200 took part iv the procossion, all wearing sashes, with rosettes aud medals, aud BOuie carrying bannorrettes, which, though simple, 'ippeared very pretty. On tho , return of the people to the marquee, Father Heuuebery preached a moat tolling sormon on " Perseverance," after which took place tho " Renewal lof Baptismal Vows," tho " Papal I Benediction," and " Benediction of the Moat Holy Sacrament." These closed a mission which will long be remembered m tho Waikato, aud at which Father, lleunobery expressed himself very much gratified, though, at tho beginning of it, he used strong language, but entirely for thopeoplos good. Ho thanked them for their attendance, their generosity, and m general for their appreciation of his services. Tho closing exercise was very touching. Fathors Mahony, Paul, O'Riordan, O'Reilly and Golden assisted at tho missiou, some part of the time, some to the end. Thanks are returned to the Waikato Steam Navigation Company, for the tarpaulins lent by thorn for the marquee, to Mr Gwynne, for his tent, to Mr LeQuesno, for seats, &0., and to all who aided the Mission.
