The Duke of Southerlaad stands at the top of the list as champion monopolist with 1,208,546 acre?, or a block of land abont 43 miles square, and in addition to this his DucUoss owns 149 879 acres in her own right. The Duke of Buculoutfh and Queensbury has 459 260 acres; Earl of Broadalbane, 438,350 ;'Sir James M'atheson, 4 6,070; Earl of Seafield, 305,891; Duko of Richmond 286,107 ; Earl of Fife, 257,652; and plain Mr Alexander Matheson, 220,433 aores. Forty-three groat land owners in the United Kingdom havo hereditarily and otherwiso managed to 'grab' 8,345,968 acres; and 2141 persons own. more than half the United Kingdom. •
