HAMILTON WEST SCHOOL ELECTION.

A large and influentially attended meeting of the Ratepayers of Hamilton West was held last night, m the school house, for the election of a oommittee for the ensuing year. Mr I. R. Vialou having been voted to the chair, Mr Knox, Chairman of the retiring committee, read tho report for tho past year. At tho time the committee took office, there was an average attendance of 41 hoys and 31 girls. This yate has steadily increased, till, m the last quarter, there were 82 boys on the roll and 08 girls, giving an average attendance of 119. The school was only buiit to accommodate 100 children. Tho board had been asked to add a wing to the school house, the reply received beiuothat Mr O' Sullivan would, m a few days, visit the district, and see personally into the matter. Since taking office, the committee had brought the compulsory clauses of tip Aot i«to force, hut %>

children had so well attended, that it was , not necessary, m any case to enforce them. During the year, a sum of £80' had been expended on fencing, £66 on a well, £200 on the master's house, and £70 on the school-house. The receipts for the year were £10i 6s, and the expenditure £101 18s 2d, leaving £3 8s 8d to the credit of the School Committee. On the motion of Mr Gaudin, seconded by Mr McPhersou, the report of the committea was unanimously adopted. Mr T. C. Hammond having been elected secretary, the following gentlemen were neveraliy proposed :— Messrs Price, Kuox, G-wynne, George Edgcumbe, L. O'Neill, Thos. Hill, L. Cussens, McLernon, W. Davis aud Von Stunner, of whom the following were clocted : G-wynno, 71 ; Knox, 70 ; Edgcumbe, 68 ; O'Neill, 07 ; McLernon, 5G ; Von Stunner, 55 ; Prise, 52. The first meeting of the new committee takes place this evening, iv the chool house, at-7 o'cl ock.
