CAM BRIDGE.
January 21. Tub spell of fine weather we have had lately, has enabled farmers fco gfifc in their hay successfully ; there is a large quantity saved this season. Messrs Vlacloan & Co. have cut more thau a hundred acres on fcho Taotaoroa estate, and, afc Gorton, a largo quantity has been stacked. The grain harvest is favorably progressing, nearly all the oats are in,- and much of the whoat. Of tli3 former, thsre is a large yield, twenty-five and thirty five bushels, iu some cases, beiug fche average per acre. Labour, is very scarce, farmers tiud' ifc very difficult to obtain a sufficient number of hands for then.' harvesting. Wages are very high, iu consequence. At the meeting of fche ratepayers, held lasfc Saturday, Mr Thos. Wells was elected to fill the vacancy caused in the Town Board, by the death of Major Clare. There was no other candidate. No Chair- , man has yefc been elected. The sohool opens here on Monday next, and a large attendance is expected. Nexfc Wednesday being a holiday, the childron will be entertained to a tea and Magic , Lantern, at the school. A challenge to play a cricket match, with the Cambridge Club, has been received from Ohinemutu, and a team will be sent up at fche beginning of nexfc month. Several horses are going from here, to run afc fche races, which are fco be held at the same time. , Mr C. Briudle has sold his racehorse, Skylark, to Mv W. Buck, who intends to enter him afc the Ohaupo meeting. The concert, held on Wednesday last, was a great succoss, as far as the performance was concerned, but the attendance was not; good, the price for admission being rather high. The next concert will be in aid of the Public School 1. und.., but concerts have been rather overdone lately. Attending all the entertainments, now here in the township, is rather a tax on ones pooket. Messrs Hayes and Benhamo's Circus was opened last night, and fche performance of the troop delighted a very large and respectable audience. At the mid-day performance, to be held to-day, Friday, no doubt numbers of children will be present, and many from a distance will avail themselves of the opportunity of seeing the skill aud daring of the athletes and equestrians, and getting homo before dark. — Own Cobbesponbent.
