PIAKO.

December 27, 1878.' , TnE school treat for the children, canio off yesterday, and was a great success, thanks to tho exertions of the kind friends who .had all the trouble, and also to those who gave contributions m any. shape. The dispkiy and quality of the eaEubles was excellent, and so was the collection of very nico articles, given to tho children as prizes for running, &c, I cannot tell the number of events, but all the children seemed to come m for a fair share of prizes. Mr Peoley, the teacher, assisted by Mr W. O. Harp and his man, superintouded the races, &c. Mr Ticklepenny, who has, all along taken a lively interest m everything connected with the school, was not present while I was there. I suppose he was too busy looking after field operations. Mrs Tioklepenny, Mrs W. G. Harp, Mrs Pootey, Mrs J. H. Murray and others were as busy as beos, superintending eatables, &c. I observe that tho schoolhouse has got a place erected, on which to hang a bell, which was presented by tho Messrs Morrin. On parsing the school, some time ago, I saw the children playing cricket, and, on enquiring how they obtained the implements, I was told that a few big ; boys, at school, being anxious to have cricket implement, held a consultation, as to how they cofcld raise the wind for the purpose. ' "After mature deliberation, it we o clecutad to get up a subscription list, ' itoh ilS^duly drawn out. As Mr T. -tfef ifras m the district at the time, it was advisablo to solicit him to hea«H the list. However, when the list was presented to him, he- promised to make a present of a set of cricket tools, and he was as good as his word, and, besides, gave permission to play m a paddock adjoining the school ground. You may fuess how pleased the youngsters were. — Own Correspondent.
