VOLUNTEER BALL, CAMBRIDGE.

. December 30, 1878. The Cambridge Voluuteer Oavahy Ball, of the 2(3 fch, was a great success, and, to take the word of the ladies, it was the most enjoya, ble ball they over known or heard about. The band, m their new uniform, really look grand, and (if posssible) seemed to play with ten times their usual melodious vigor. Forty couple were present and the ball was opened by Captain Runciman and Mrs J. Furgusson. Early m the evening, eighteen of the young- members of the corps, at present non-dancers, waited upon the Captain, to put them m the way of forming a dancing class, and the services of Sergeant Mackintosh were at onoo engaged for a weekly class. The Caterer, Mr J. Laurence, gave the greatest satisfaction m every particular. The rooms were well fitted up, and well •filled with all the delicacies of the season, such as iced cream, jellies, strawberries and other fruit m great variety. The wines, &c, were m liberal supply, of the choicest quality, from the well known Hewitt's Criterion Hotel. The dancingwas kept up with utmost spirit uutill early dawn, when sorrow at parting seemed near, but, a cry went forth that, it was only the moon rising, but, the next dance though, left uo doubt that it was time to announce the final gallop, .vhen every person m the room seemed to believe poor pat was right, when he said one moon was worth two suns, baoause, he said, the one gave us light when we wanted ifc, but, tlio other guvo us liyht while we had plenty. " God S.ive the Queen," and three cheers for the b.md, concluded our pleisaut bull. — Fuou a CORRESI'OXDEXr.
