ALEXANDRA.
December 23. As subscription lists are all the go just now, the natives are determined not to be behind hand, So Honau i Maiho has his, to obtain sufficient money to start the Kingite newspaper, to be printed at Kopua. A sum of about £20 is all they require for the purpose. They have the press aud printers among themselves. Rather an amusing incident which however, may prove serious to oue of the parties concerned occurred here on Fiiday last. Mr James Allan was trying a repeater rifle on his farm, the range being, lie says, on his own ground. A man named Hugh Kelly employed ou Mr Tisdal's faun on tbe opposite side of the road imagined he was m his own country and beiug made the vic'iui of au agrarian outrage. Seeiug George Appleyard riding along the road, he at ouce went aud swore an information against him. And App eyaad -was arrested. Fortunately for him he was accompanied by another person ou foot whom Kelly did not see, and whos-* evidence with Mr Allan's at once procured his acquittal of the charge. I heard a story the other day, which although it happened some little time ago, to those who can recognise the party is too good to be lost. One of our Waipa settlers, not particularly remarkable for extravagant liberality, had necessity for the temporary loan of some £'\i). A neighbour obliged him with the amount charging no interest, but took his P.N. lor tha amount on tbe necessary stamp, which the borrower had not provided. The money was paid back m due time. Being afterwards reminded of the price of the stamp he replied, " I have been thiukiug about it, that as it was for your own security, of course you ought to pay for it. — Own CouresrONDENT.
