The Peomenade Concert held on Thursday evening, in the Bazaar building, Hamilton, waa a most unqualified success, and is likely to render that class of entertainment very popular; indeed, many who were there on that occasion were heard to say they should never care again, at any rate in summer time, for the old style of concerts, where every one is fixed like a limpit on a rock to one spot. There must have been nearly two hundred persons present, yet the room was cool and comfortable, and after awhile, when the gentlemen having got over their bashfulness, and having broken up these masculine groups which jam the doorways and stairs at ball rooms, took heart of grace and dispersed themselves among their lady friends, ths affair was made what it was really intended to be, a promenade and reunion, enlivened by music. The accousfcic properties of the building were not as good as they might have been, requiring more than usual effort on the part of the singers, but from the position of the stage, the voice was pretty well heard throughout. The programme was not strictly adhered to, but was a yery good one, nevertheless. The Uhoral Society rendered excellent assistance, and appear to be improving vastly, not only in their execution, but in the time kept, and in tho harmonious blending of the voices, an excellence which continued and regular practice together will alone develop into excellence. There was, however, noticable the great desideratum which this Society lacks, a larger number of bass voices, the trebles preponderating. We missed more than one of Hamilton's popular singers on this occasion. There were, however, many choice morceaux, and nota, bly amongst these, " The Last Rose of Summer," sung with exquisite feeling and finish, a new duet, "The Sisters dear,!' and some concerted pieces The instrumental performances were exceedingly good, and though we have had as good musical performances before now, taken as a whole the concert of Thursday evening was, we believe, the most thoroughly enjoyed of any that has been held in Hamilton. The proceeds amounted to more than £l3, of which £9 will be handed over to the Hamilton West School Committee, for the purchase of prizes, &c. During the evening, the irrepressible wedding cake—which, by the bye, had been raffled during the afternoon on behalf of the Sunday School childrens treat, won by Mrs Gwynne, and had been once more given by that lady to be disposed of for the same object—was again raffled, Mr T. H. White being the lucky winner.
