HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting for the appointment of Town Clerk was held yesterday evening. Present : The Mayor, and Councillors Knox, Cox, Gardnei, Potter, Dawson, Gwynne, Gaudin, Beale, and Hume.
Cr. Potter proposed, and Cr. Knox seconded, that the appointment of Clerk be postponed until after the new Mayor enters upon office, so as to allow him to have a voice m the appointment.
An amendment was proposed by Or. Gwynne aud seconded by Cr. Cox, — that the business of the meeting (fche appointment of a Clerk) be at once proceeded wifch. For the amendment : Crs. Cox, Gwynne, Beaie, and the Mayor. — Against : Crs. Knox, Gardner, Potter, Dawson, Gaudin, and Hume.
The motion was then declared fco have been carried, aud the business was brought to a close.
The following resolutions will be moved by Cr. Potter on the next sitting day, Monday next : —
That, m consequence of the mere extension of.the railway into Hamilton, as one of the works sanctioned by the late Parliament, this Council take all preliminary and necessary steps forthwith for the construction of a tramway into the East side the Borough at fche same time and m connection wifch the said extension of railway into Hamilton by the General Government.
That fche Surveyor to this Council be requested to report, on or before the next general meeting, as to the practicability of the traflic bridge about to bo erected for tramway purposes, and, m case any alterations or additions would bo necessary, to state what, and the probable cost required to make it suitable. That the Solicitors to this Council be instructed to take such action as is required by the Municipal Corporations aud other Acts m reference to tramways, for the purpose of constructing a tramway as a feeder to the railway extension into Hamilton (as contemplated by fche action of the late -Parliament). That the Government be notified by this Council that it ia their intention to cause a tramway to be laid through to tho East side tho Borough as a feeder to the railway about to be constructed by the Government into Hamilton as an extension of fche present line, with a request that, to aid the Borough Couucil iv such undertaking, the Govern meut will be pleased to give them the plant required for such construction — the Governmeufc having large quantities m store ; the length of the proposed work to accompany such correspondence. That a copy of all correspondence that has taken place between the Government, the Mayor, or any officer of this Council, or any person on their behalf, be laid upon the table as soon as possible, having reference to the extension of the railway into tiamiiton, together with any maps or diagrams that may have been forwarded to the Government m respect fco the same, and a list of all maps and diagrams, stating their particular object, that havo been made for such purpose, or having reference thereto.
