ENGLAND AND AFGHANISTAN.
LONDON, October 1. England has sent the Amir of Afghanistan an ultimatum. LONDON, November 1. Mr Gladstone, sj-eakiug at a public meeting on the question of Afghanistan and the Eastern po'icy of the Government, said ihe course adopted caused commeical stagnation, anrt, taking higher ground, he considered it a violation ot the Constitution. It is officially stated that the reply of the Amir of Afghanistan indicates avowed hostility, and it has been decided that this will be the Amir's last chance. Au Afreedee tribe have tendered their services to th.eßrit.ish. There is no cause for anxiety. The Amir's troops are at Alimuesede. The Northern Khelat tribes have veudered great assistance m furnishing .supplies to the Quctbu column.
